In 2013, the model for the "Ideas Notebooks", a new series of thematic publications that, in a simple and informative way, breakdown the technical aspects of a specific emerging environmental theme, was defined so that the knowledge on new emerging themes acquired during the monitoring work by the Basque Ecodesign Center's Ideas Laboratory can reach the whole of the industrial fabric of the Basque Country.

All the ideas networks follow the same structure to ensure better understanding and familiarization with the concept:

• What is it? An initial section that explains the concept analyzed and the possible definitions of associated terms.
• What does it comprise? Technical implications of the theme, degree of development achieved, improvements contributed or hazards entailed.
• Environmental implications, whether positive or negative, with a product life cycle approach.
• Case studies and examples of success and failure associated to each area.
• And what now? A list of references to go further into the concepts or recommendations to be able to put an application pilot scheme into practice.
