Environmental footprint pilot programmes

Following the methodology development period, the European Commission completed an environmental footprint pilot phase between 2013 and 2018, which was based on three key objectives:

• Testing the specific product and sector rules development process.
• Testing different verification focuses.
• Testing the means of communicating life cycle environmental performance to trade partners, consumers, and other company stakeholders.

After completing said environmental footprint pilot development phase, informative sheets establishing the project's status and scope were published together with participating companies in the Technical Secretariat. These documents can be found through the European Commission website.

The attached document presents a brief description of the pilot programmes that have been approved to date.

As criteria for new product and service categories arise, they will be included in subsequent versions.
