Smart City
Half the world’s population now lives in cities. These large cities will continue to grow significantly, thanks to the improved quality of life and economic and technological development. However, such sharp growth, together with problems such as global warming or energy dependency, has raised the pressing need to come up with new alternatives.
The Smart City concept therefore emerges in this context. A Smart City is a socio-economically and environmentally sustainable city that integrates the information and communication technologies (ICTs) within the urban regeneration process.
The first Ideas Notebook dedicated to this topic consists of an introduction to Smart Cities, which aims to delve further into concepts such as redesigning the urban fabric, sustainable mobility, energy efficient buildings and other key aspects on which to base the progress of the cities of the future.
