Ecodesign in 22 distribution cells
Ormazabal has supported Iberdrola in the project launched by the latter to ascertain the environmental performance of its electrical substation in Ordizia.
To this end, an analysis of the environmental impacts of the 22 CPG_0 primary distribution systems (divided into 11 groups according to mutual properties and elements) installed in this substation, using the ecodesign methodology, was carried out. The results obtained have enabled the project team to identify the main environmental problems posed by these products, in order to then de?ne and identify future improvement strategies which can be applied.
The results obtained show an improvement of 6-7% over the life-cycle of the 22 systems under analysis.
LCA of the ORGANIC type 630 kVA/20 kV distribution transformer
From the internal work carried out to date on the environmental evaluation of its main products, ORMAZABAL has started to develop a complete Life Cycle Analysis of one of its most innovative pieces of equipment, the ORGANIC type 630 kVA/20 kV distribution transformer.
One of the main characteristics of this product is based on the use, as liquid dielectric, of a biodegradable natural ester obtained from vegetable oils and with a formula that does not include anti-oxidant additives. Its excellent anti-oxidant capacity is based in its special composition and in a speci?c re?ning process that allows it to maintain natural anti-oxidants.
The project will follow the guidelines of "PSR 2000:6; Liquid- or gas-?lled and dry type transformers within the range of < 1000 MVA" and complies with the requirements for Environmental Product Declarations, EPD (MSR 1999:2) - an application of standard ISO TR14025, published on 27 March 2000 by the Swedish Ministry of the Environment Management Council, internationally known as the environmental comparison between products standard.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the CGM COSMOS-SLP Fully-Gas Insulated Medium Voltage System
The project consisted of conducting the Lifce Cycle Assessment of the Ormazábal CGMCOSMOS-2LP cell using the SimaPro tool. The main aim of the study was to calculate the most signi?cant environmental aspects of the product and the impact that it causes in the environment. Along with using it as a tool in its competitiveness strategy.
The life of the product and associated processes was therefore assessed in full, de?ning all the environmental burdens associated to each phase and evaluating which are more or less harmful. The production phases was also analysed in greater detail, as it is the one that directly a?ects Ormazábal, and some recommendations were made to improve the environmental variable of the product.
Ormazabal has become the first Basque company to have Product Environmen- tal Declarations (EPDs) under the French PEP Eco Passport system
PEPecopassport® is the international reference programme for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) from the heating, electronic and electricity sector, as well as from cooling industries.
The very goal of the PEPecopassport programme is to provide a reliable and common benchmark framework, in compliance with the ISO 14025 and ISO 14040 international standards, to classify the environmental performances in the products in a relevant and objective way, in order to help customers and consultants to make the correct decision, using clear and reliable data.
With the veri?cation of the CGM COSMOS-SLP Fully-Gas Insulated Medium Voltage System, Ormazabal has become the ?rst Basque company to work with this Environmental Production Declaration, demonstrating its management commitment and to transparency regarding the environmental considerations of its products.
