Traction model
As it was explained before, the Basque Ecodesign Center proposes an environmental traction model in the supply chain in relation with three environmental action ?elds clearly di?erentiated.
At the same time, each of these ?elds is divided into di?erent stages, according to the enclosed diagram.
Environmental Management of the Activity:
This activity block de?nes the ?rst step towards sustainability. It aims at achieving a solid base, so it tries to work in environmental legislation matters and management systems environmental. In this ?eld, stakeholders will mainly be suppliers.
A company, before embarking on this process, must have covered its basic requirements, such as compliance with environmental legislation. From this point, incorporating management systems means that the company needs to have a spirit of improvement through continuous planning and improvement activities, with the setting of targets for environmental improvement.
Once this base is consolidated, it tries to continue with the traction of suppliers with two di?erent approaches: product-business and supplies-corporate services.
Product Supply Chain:
This ?eld aims at covering all the supply chain actors. It will cover all contributions and environmental improvements to be applied to the product or service which is the base of the traction company.
Under this line of work, the "Life Cycle" concept becomes e?ective, being able to work, in di?erent proportions, in each and all of the life cycle stages of the particular product.
Purchasing and procurement of supplies and corporate services:
The last area of work pretends to introduce environmental clauses in the company's general purchases and procurements which, although necessary for the running of the organisation, are not part of the business and therefore do not have an e?ect on its products or services.
“Committed to environmental traction in the supply chain” seminar
On November 15, 2013, as part of the XIX European Quality Week Euskalit, the Basque Ecodesign Center organised at the headquarters of Euskaltel in Derio (Bizkaia), a technical seminar focused on the supply chain environmental traction.
The aim of the seminar was to present the program to support companies that are part of the respective supply chains of the members in order to train and accommodate them in technical projects in ecodesign, purchasing and contracted services being carried out.
Throughout the seminar the actions that were launched in 2014 and the practice way to participate in them were presented. These are summarised in three work programs:
Environmental Activity Management, Product Supply Chain (business), and purchasing and acquisition of supplies and corporate services. For each of them, the tools and measures that will be used were presented and discussed in three working groups.
The seminar was attended by over 100 people and practical cases of ?ve of the Basque Ecodesign Center members were
shown: Eroski, Euskaltel, Gamesa, Iberdrola and Vicinay Cadenas.
